At STEELPORT Knife Co., we are committed to not only being a leader in the manufacturing and sales of high-quality kitchen knives, but also to being a responsible corporate citizen. One way we do this is through our dedication to environmental sustainability and recycling throughout our processes, from our local Oregon Maple burl wood handle, to the unique natural coffee patina we apply to our steel, and even the packaging we use to ship our knives to customers.
When it comes to packaging, we of course need our boxes to safely hold the sharpest knives, but we also wanted to use recyclable materials in the process. That’s why we have developed a packaging approach that uses a piece of cardboard to hold the knife inside a paper insert, which fits into a cardboard outer box. This not only keeps the knife safe during shipping, but it also allows for the packaging to be fully recyclable.
This approach requires extra investment in terms of time and attention, both in the packaging process and in the unboxing process for our customers. However, we believe that these extra efforts are well worth it in order to keep one-time use materials out of our landfills.
The outer box can also be used as a storage container for the knife if the user doesn’t have a STEELPORT sheath or knife block.
Not only is the paper fully recyclable, but all of the materials and manufacturing of the boxes are also sourced and produced locally in Portland, OR. This reduces our carbon footprint while supporting local businesses and communities.
At STEELPORT, we understand that an heirloom quality kitchen knife is more than just a purchase, it’s an investment. The knife will be used for years to come, and will be passed down from one generation to another. It is our duty to make sure that the products we deliver are of the highest quality, and the process of delivering it causes the least harm to the environment.
We hope that our customers will join us in our commitment to environmental sustainability by recycling the packaging materials after receiving their knives.
We are always looking for new ways to improve our environmental practices and we will continue to strive for the best. We believe in being environmentally responsible in all of our processes, not just because it’s the right thing to do, but because it’s the best thing to do for the long-term longevity of our community. At STEELPORT, we are committed to being a good corporate citizen and doing our part to protect our planet for future generations.
