Earl Ninsom cooked his first dish at age eight, a simple rice-and-pork porridge for his ill mother, and has been drawn to the kitchen ever since. Born in Bangkok, he is now regarded as one of Portland’s most talented chefs, leading a nationally acclaimed group of Thai restaurants, including EEM, Langbaan, PaaDee, Hat Yai, Phuket Café, and Yaowarat. His restaurants have earned widespread recognition, with EEM and Langbaan named Restaurant of the Year by The Oregonian and Portland Monthly, Hat Yai landing on USA Today’s “Top 10 Best New Restaurants,” and Yaowarat earning Portland Monthly’s 2023 Restaurant of the Year. In 2024, Langbaan won the James Beard Award for Outstanding Restaurant.
