Fall is here, and that means it's time to start thinking about all the delicious breads and treats we want to bake—and the STEELPORT Bench Scraper is the perfect companion for the job. Known by many names—Bench Knife, Dough Scraper, Dough Cutter, Pastry Cutter, Dough Knife—the list goes on. Yet, many home cooks still don't own one or realize just how useful a bench scraper can be.

"Used the bench scraper this morning setting up a loaf of bread and cleaning up. Excellent on all counts. Great for helping to shape the dough, clean dough off silicone shaping surface, and scoring the dough before baking. Definitely 5 stars."
 – Jocelyn W., STEELPORT Customer

STEELPORT Customer The obvious uses for a bench scraper often center around baking: portioning dough, smoothing icing, leveling measuring cups, or scoring bread. But that's just the beginning. Bench scrapers are incredibly versatile in everyday cooking as well—perfect for scooping chopped vegetables from a cutting board, cutting fresh pasta dough, or cleaning surfaces of wet, dry, or sticky ingredients.

What Makes the STEELPORT Bench Scraper Different

The STEELPORT Bench Scraper stands out above the rest with:

  • A handle designed for comfort: Just like our knives, the handle is made from resin-stabilized Oregon Big Leaf Maple burl and shaped to fit comfortably in any hand.
  • A durable blade: Crafted from 18-gauge stainless steel, it won't bend or warp like most bench scrapers.
  • Corners designed for real work: One right-angle corner for precision tasks and a rounded corner for scraping out proofing boxes.

Bench scrapers have long been treated as disposable tools in professional kitchens. At STEELPORT, we wanted to challenge that idea—to create a bench scraper that would stand the test of time and use. Built with heirloom-quality craftsmanship and backed by our lifetime warranty, this tool is designed to last, perform beautifully, and look worthy of gifting.

"It's aesthetically cool, well-crafted, and has a nice weight. Everyone in this business loves owning high-quality, beautifully made tools. A bench scraper is a pretty basic everyday item in a kitchen, but this one looks and feels so nice, like a little luxury. It's well done, it's well crafted, and it looks amazing."

The STEELPORT 3-Piece Baker Set

We've paired the STEELPORT Bench Scraper with our premium, handcrafted 10" Bread Knife, praised by The New York Times and Business Insider, to create the 3-Piece Baker Set—complete with the 10" Bread Knife Sheath—a gift any baker would be honored to receive.

Like all STEELPORT knives, our Bread Knife includes these prized features:

The STEELPORT Bread Knife specifically also has:

  • 10" blade length
  • Curved blade for board clearance
  • Custom wavy serration pattern

"I really appreciate the geometry of the serrations on the STEELPORT bread knife. It's gentle enough for brioche and other delicate loaves, but also sturdy and heavy enough to go through crusty hearth loaves without crushing. I've always had a hard time getting serrated bread knives sharpened and knowing that STEELPORT can resharpen this knife is a relief."
– Dillon DeBauche, Owner and Head Baker of Little T Bakery

As the baking season kicks off, it's worth it to treat yourself or the special baker in your life to the tools that will elevate bakes to the next level.

Caring for Your Bench Scraper and Baker Set

The STEELPORT Bench Scraper should be hand-washed and dried, not put in a dishwasher.

Treat your Bread Knife with the same care as all your other carbon steel knives – hand wash and dry after each use – no dishwasher. Always use a cutting board; avoid cutting on plates or countertops. Don't cut anything you wouldn't use your teeth on (no bones or frozen food).

The STEELPORT Carbon Steel Knife Care Kit contains Camelia Oil that can be used to preserve the carbon steel blade of your Bread Knife. Treat the wood handles of both the Bread Knife and the Bench Scraper like a wooden cutting board, i.e., avoid letting them soak in water, and rub them down with our Care Kit Handle Wax once or twice a month.
